The second generation of Google’s smart display, or Google Nest Hub 2, is the company’s most recent model and, like its predecessor, the Google Home Hub before being renamed Google Nest Hub, is marketed by Google as the ideal nightstand smart display.

Since the new Google Nest Hub can track your sleep unlike any other smart display on the market, Google may feel it has a stronger case this time around. That claim was a bit of a stretch for the original model because the Hub didn’t have a camera.

Must you purchase?

The first Google smart display to incorporate Soli radar technology which allows you to wave or “tap” the air in front of the smartphone to activate specific controls, such as playing or pausing music, has previously been implemented in the Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL smartphone. On the 7-inch screen, you can watch Netflix and Disney+, and its speaker lets you listen to a variety of streaming services. Don’t anticipate a booming, room-filling sound from the new Hub, despite Google’s boasts that it has 50% stronger bass than the one it replaces. It will work fine as background music, though. The screen quality won’t impress you either, but it will work if you need a bigger screen than your smartphone to play videos in the background.
