iPhone 14 Launch May Be Delayed Due To Increasing Tensions Between China And Taiwan

iPhone 14 Launch

According to a recent source, the next iPhone 14 may be delayed due to escalating hostilities between China and Taiwan as Apple prepares to introduce its next-generation iPhone series.

Apple is TSMC’s main client, and the manufacturer sends chips to Pegatron in China, where iPhones are put together, according to GSMArena. Additionally, the relationship between China and Taiwan has been further strained by the visit of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan.

The CCP has therefore established new rules that ban the use of the terms “Taiwan” or “The Republic of China” in shipping documents. This year’s iPhone 14 series introduction by Apple was scheduled for September 6. However, they might be compelled to postpone the launch event, similar to certain smartphone makers. This could be due to production run delays or a shortage of made units.

China-Taiwan friction could cause Apple to delay the release of the iPhone 14.

The release and delivery of Apple’s next iPhone 14 series could be postponed. The main cause of this delay is the persistent geopolitical hostility between China and Taiwan and China’s threat of military action in response to Nancy Pelosi, speaker of the US House of Representatives.

The supply chain between China and Taiwan has been hampered by the tensions between the two. The majority of the iPhone 14’s parts were produced in Taiwan, while the majority of the devices were put together in China and Taiwan.

Apple had several component-related problems even before the China-Taiwan incident, ranging from quality control to shortages of specific key components.

Due to this interruption and the widening gap between China and several American and European nations, Apple had also decided to produce a sizable chunk of the iPhone 14’s exports at its Indian manufacturing.

Apple recently informed its suppliers that China has begun implementing a requirement requiring Taiwanese parts and components to bear the labels “Taiwan, China” or “Chinese Taipei” on their packaging. This has further complicated matters for Apple, which already had huge shipments of parts, including screens and SoCs, prepared for delivery to their Chinese assembly facilities.

Apple iPhone 14 Shipments May Get Delayed Due To China-Taiwan Tensions

This regulation is broken by any shipment labelled “Made in Taiwan,” and Chinese customs officials have the right to hold it back. Each shipment that breaks the law may be subject to a fine of up to CNY 4,000, or around Rs. 47,000, and it’s also possible that the shipment would be seized and destroyed.

One of the shipments from Taiwan to one of Apple’s iPhone assemblers, Pegatron, in China was reportedly held for a review last week to see whether the import statement had been submitted following Chinese regulations. It has not yet been disclosed what happened to the shipment.

If the September 6 event is postponed, Apple has already begun to record and put together its September media event, which is anticipated to happen in the first half of the month. The September introduction of the iPhone 14 series is one of two events that Apple is planning to conduct in the fall. This implies that part, if not all, of the hardware, might be sent back to Taiwan, which would delay the production of the iPhone 14, according to the report.

Additionally, top officials from TSMC and Pegatron were spotted with Pelosi during the visit, raising the possibility that this is the start of a more ferocious trade conflict between the CCP and Taiwan in which Apple and other US-based firms are caught in the middle.

Apple iPhone 14 series launch may get delayed due to China-Taiwan tensions: Report

Apple has asked that all labeling with “Made in Taiwan” or “Republic of China” be removed or replaced and is already in discussions with its Taiwanese partners about this.

According to a recent source, Apple intends to simultaneously ship the iPhone 14 from manufacturing in China and India.

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo’s most recent survey, Foxconn’s iPhone manufacturing facility in India would begin shipping the new 6.1-inch iPhone 14 virtually concurrently with China in the second half of 2022. (India being one quarter or more behind in the past).

The iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Max, and the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max will probably be part of this year’s iPhone lineup.
